Rock N' Roll Race Report - Lacy Graham
I recently completed my second half marathon on Sunday--the Rock N Roll Half in Phoenix. My training beforehand was pretty rocky, due to IT band issues causing knee pain. I was very unsure of how the race would go since I wasn't really running as much as I should have been to prepare for it, and also because I had no idea what my knees would feel like during the race. But actually the race went really well. I had some tightness in both knees, but minimal pain, so I just pushed through it. The course was very flat, with only a small hill around mile 10--although for us Colorado runners, I wouldn't even really classify it as a true hill! Also, for any of you who are thinking of trying this race sometime, let me just warn you it is NOT scenic, so that was kind of disappointing. There are some beautiful places in and around Phoenix/Scottsdale, but the course they chose was not one of them. But overall, I was very happy with the way the race went and turned out. I ended up with a time of 2:14--only 4 minutes slower than my previous half in October! --Boulder Sports Performance member Lacy Graham

Lacy, I'm so glad you had a good run even though your training wasn't what you'd planned. I'm down in Tucson for a few weeks and am enjoying running in shorts in AZ. If I can just keep myself from eating too much while I'm on the road... --kate
