My left hamstring hurts!#!*! when I run. Friday, it hurt on the way to the track and then eased up as I warmed up, but Saturday when I went out for my long run, it hurt too much and I stopped. I was limping and felt like I might injure something else if I continued.
I've been so impressed with Nicole, Erin and Jessie as they have found other ways to train through injuries and come back strong. However, I didn't want to join the injured runner team.
It's been really hard for me to know when to back off training when my body hurts. I know that training hard leaves you sore, but that's what we need to get stronger. I'm the only one who can answer "How much time do I need for recovery between hard workouts?" But I don't always know the answer before my body forces it on me with an injury.
I will still run the half marathon in Kentucky April 24 with my brothers, so for now, I'm just going to focus on doing what I have to to get to that finish line--acupunture, pool running, cycling, massage, and (I hope) some runs with our 24run group. Could I get in a long run on the weekend?
One thing about an injury is that it really makes you appreciate being able to run.

ReplyDeleteWe're all behind you. You are and inspiration to all us "young-ins" who complain when the "going gets tough & rough". Stay strong and I promise you'll get through. Be smart, be positive and keep your head up.
